President Bola Tinubu has taken legal action to prevent the release of his university academic records to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by a United States Federal Court. Atiku had sought a subpoena for Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s school records as part of his legal challenge against Tinubu’s declaration as Nigeria’s president.
In response, Tinubu has filed a motion to join the case, stating that he should be considered an interested party as the owner of the records being sought. He argues that Chicago State University may not fully protect his interests.
Tinubu’s motion contends that the requested records fall under a 1974 privacy law for American students and should not be released.
The case has garnered attention due to its potential impact on the legal challenge against Tinubu’s presidency, with a verdict from the Nigerian election petitions tribunal anticipated around September 21, 2023.
