Tinubu to Inaugurate 19th All Nigeria Editors Conference in Uyo

The Nigerian Guild of Editors has announced that President Bola Tinubu will officially open the 19th All Nigeria Editors Conference in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The guild’s statement indicated that 300 editors are expected to convene in Uyo on Tuesday for the annual conference.

Distinguished personalities, including Uncle Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard; Aremo Segun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State; and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of ThisDay and Arise News Channel, are slated to attend. Osoba will serve as the Father of the Day, while Amuka will chair the conference.

Scheduled to take place from November 14 to 18, 2023, the conference will also witness the launch of the NGE Media Trust Fund. The theme, ‘Stimulating Economic Growth, Technological Advancement: Role of the Media,’ reflects the critical role the media plays in shaping economic discourse and technological progress.

The conference will feature discussions on pressing national issues, including the impact of illegal oil refineries, bunkering, and oil theft on the nation’s economy. Senior security experts and stakeholders in the oil sector, including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, are expected to contribute insights on these challenges, which pose a significant threat to Nigeria’s revenue and economic stability.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, along with corporate organizations such as the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Nigeria Customs Service, United Bank for African, Delta State government, Nigerian Ports Authority, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, and Dangote Group of Company, have pledged their support for the conference. The widespread support underscores the conference’s aim of fostering a comprehensive dialogue to address Nigeria’s current economic challenges.
