In a devastating incident, no fewer than 11 individuals lost their lives on Saturday in a fatal auto collision at Kwanar Gujungu town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa Police Command, ASP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the tragic event in a statement released in Dutse on Sunday. According to Shiisu, the accident occurred around 12:00 pm when a Honda saloon with registration number NSR 469 AE collided head-on with a Golf wagon bearing registration number AUY 292 XA.
The Honda car was reported to be carrying five passengers, including the driver identified as Abdullahi Muhammad, while the Golf wagon had four passengers along with its driver, identified as Safiyanu Mamu.
Shiisu provided details of the incident, stating, “On Saturday, at about 1200hrs, the command recorded a fatal motor vehicle accident which claimed eleven lives at Kwanar Gujungu town when two vehicles had a head-on collision, as a result of which all the eleven people in both vehicles answered the supreme call on the spot.”
Upon receiving the distress call, a team of personnel from Taura Divisional Police Headquarters rushed to the scene and transported the victims to the General Hospital in Taura. Unfortunately, a medical doctor at the hospital confirmed all the victims dead.
In response to the tragic incident, Commissioner of Police CP Ahmadu Abdullahi expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the officers and men of the command to the families, relatives, and well-wishers of the deceased. The entire community is mourning the loss of lives, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are likely to be conducted to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
