Tragic Mosque Fire in Kano: Suspect Arrested

The Kano State Police have confirmed a devastating fire at a mosque in the Laraba Abasawa area of Gezawa. The blaze, which occurred early on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, led to the arrest of a man suspected of starting the fire.

AIG Umar Mamman Sanda revealed that one worshipper died from the incident. The police chief, along with the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), visited the victims at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

“This was not an act of terrorism,” Sanda stated. “The fire resulted from a dispute over inheritance. The suspect, dissatisfied with the distribution, used a locally made bomb. He is currently in custody and cooperating with the investigation.”

Sanda urged the community to remain calm as authorities manage the situation and ensure the victims receive the necessary medical care.
