Kingsley Opara, a 43-year-old truck driver, was charged with manslaughter on Thursday after allegedly killing a man while driving his vehicle carelessly.
The defendant, who resides at No. 5 Samuel Otusile Street in the Iba Ojo neighborhood of Lagos State, is accused of manslaughter and two counts of hazardous driving.
Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, a police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes on September 16, 2023.
According to him, the incident happened at around 1:20 pm at Whitesand Field on the Badagry Expressway in Sari Iganmu, Lagos State.

Kehinde testified in court that Opara, the driver of a Mack truck with the license plate T-13537LA, drove the truck in a reckless way to other road users.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant damaged a Toyota Dyna mini truck being driven by Mukaila Aliyu with the license plate AKD 108XY.
Kehinde said in court that Opara drove the truck in an unsafe manner on the same day that Deputy Corps Road Marshall Abiodun Ajomole, 35, died.
He claimed that, prior to his death, the corps was a part of the Road Safety Corp 2, Point 116 Costain Unit Command in Lagos State.
Sections 51(i) and 52 of the Lagos State 2018 Road Traffic Law and Regulations were violated, according to the prosecutor.
However the accused denied the accusation leveled against him.
As a result, the defendant was granted bail in the amount of N1m with the help of two trustworthy sureties by Chief Magistrate Mrs. Folashade Kayode.
According to her, one of the sureties must be a civil servant with a Grade Level 16 and the second must be a prominent member of the community.
The matter was postponed until October 28, 2023.
