Simon Ekpa, the self-imposed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile and a Biafra advocate, has expressed concern over the potential for the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to pass away while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Ekpa has asserted that urgent action is needed to prevent this outcome, as Kanu’s doctors have reportedly left the country, leaving him without adequate medical attention in DSS custody.
In a statement shared on Twitter, Ekpa also alleged that the DSS intends to prohibit anyone from visiting Kanu in the upcoming weeks. He called on fellow Biafrans to remain steadfast and offer prayers for Kanu’s well-being while they intensify their efforts. However, Ekpa emphasized that if the DSS denies access to Kanu and he suffers harm, they will not forgive Kanu’s siblings, whom he believes to be part of the plan.
Nnamdi Kanu has been held by Nigeria’s secret police, the DSS, since his arrest in June 2021 in Kenya and subsequent extradition to Nigeria. He is facing trial for charges of treasonable felony, despite being cleared of terrorism and treasonable felony charges by the Court of Appeal last year.
