Wike Administers Oath to FCTA Secretaries

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated Charles Elechi as the Secretary of Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership of the administration, along with several other appointees. In his address, Minister Wike urged the new appointees to carry out their duties with a sense of urgency, dedication, and selflessness.

Charles Elechi, a lawyer, previously served as a two-term Commissioner for Agriculture and Transport in Abia State. He also held the position of Special Adviser to a former governor in the state in 2015.

Other secretaries who were inaugurated include Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe (Health and Environmental Services secretariat), Uboku Nyah (Transportation secretariat), Salman Dako (Legal Services secretariat), Bitrus Garki (Area Council Services secretariat), among others.

Minister Wike emphasized the importance of their roles in achieving President Bola Tinubu’s “accelerated development and transformation agenda” for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aiming to transform it into a world-class Capital Territory.

He highlighted various challenges affecting the FCT, including revenue generation, environmental sanitation, public health, infrastructure development, security, education, agriculture, food security, and satellite towns development. He stressed the need to address public transportation comprehensively, as no modern city can function effectively without a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system.

Minister Wike also called for transparency and accountability in revenue generation and procurement processes to bolster the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) status and eliminate inefficiencies in the system. He emphasized the importance of raising funds to support the ambitious development projects and initiatives planned for the FCT.

This inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter in the FCT’s development, with a focus on addressing critical challenges and achieving transformative goals under President Tinubu’s leadership.
