The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that its agents at the Uyo Zonal Command have captured 24 suspected internet fraudsters who were allegedly trained for cybercrime in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale’s statement on Monday, the suspects were arrested based on intelligence gathered about a storey building suspected of being a shelter for training online fraudsters in the Ewet Housing Estate and Nelson Mandela neighborhoods.

According to the statement, the all-male suspects were apprehended in two locations: D-Line Ewet Housing Estate and Nelson Mandela neighborhood in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The statement says in part: “The all-male suspects were arrested in two places in an intelligence-driven sting operation at D-Line Ewet Housing Estate and Nelson Mandela neighborhood, both in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“Items collected from the property and the suspects include five exotic cars, 18 laptop computers, 17 mobile phones, and one internet router.
“On November 28, 2019, the EFCC arrested 23 trainers and trainees at a “Yahoo Academy” on Essien Essien Street, Ikot Ibiok village, Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
“The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
