Kogi Tribunal Secretary Attacked: Probe Begins

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged attack on the Secretary of the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, David Mike.

According to a statement by the Kogi State Police Command, the order follows an official report of the attack by the secretary and two others at the command’s headquarters in Lokoja.

Mike and his colleagues reported that they were attacked on their way to the office to post copies of the petition filed on December 2, 2023.

According to the statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, William Aya, Mike and his colleagues left their hotel rooms in Lokoja around 1300hrs, heading to their office at the High Court complex. Just before the CBN office at about 1320hrs, one SUV, which had earlier overtaken them, blocked their car with two other SUVs following behind.

They reported seeing about seven hooded men, heavily armed and dressed in black attire, who shot into the air. The attackers then dragged them out of their car, ransacked it, and made away with all the documents, including petitions filed by four parties.

Mike claimed to have reported the incident to the DSS office, prompting a thorough investigation into the incident by the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.

The statement from the Kogi State Police Command also addressed the distorted information circulating about the incident and urged the public to avoid statements that may prejudice the ongoing investigation. The command appealed to anyone with useful information on the alleged incident to provide it to the command, assuring the public of updates as the investigation progresses.
