The family of Taiwo Owoeye, a former ophthalmic nurse at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), is mourning her tragic death in Suffolk, United Kingdom. Taiwo was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, David Abodunde, on Tuesday, November 28.
Reports indicate that the deceased, a mother of three who also worked as a nurse in the UK, had reported an assault by her husband to the police on Monday, November 27. When the police visited their apartment the next day, they discovered Taiwo lying motionless on the living room floor. Despite efforts to revive her, paramedics declared her dead at the scene.
David Abodunde, who was inside the apartment with her, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of her murder. The couple got married in 2016, and Taiwo had relocated to the UK in 2022, joined by her husband earlier this year.
In a Facebook post, Taiwo’s brother, Alex Owoeye, expressed sorrow over her passing and claimed that, based on investigations by the Suffolk Police, David was declared the sole murderer of his sister.
He wrote, “After thoroughly conducted investigations, despite being caught in the act, he (the husband) was declared the sole murderer of his wife (my sister).”
Owoeye noted that the three children of the couple were now under the care of UK social services. He urged family members to remain calm, assuring them that justice would be served.
Another relative, Opeyemi Owoeye, echoed the sentiment, calling for justice for Taiwo and lamenting the tragic circumstances of her death.
Reacting to the news, Facebook user Olabanji Fabiyi described the incident as heart-wrenching, expressing shock at the brutal act and citing an audio clip of the couple’s conversation as evidence of the husband’s alleged barbaric actions.
