Confluence University of Science and Technology, or CUSTECH, in Kogi State, has announced a three-day mourning period in response to the kidnapping and murder of two of its students.
Ms. Olufunke Hudson, the CUSTECH Registrar, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
On May 9, a group of university students, including James Michael-Anajuwe and Musa Hussein, first-year students studying software engineering and information technology, respectively, were abducted.
While they were preparing for their exams, which were scheduled to begin on May 13, they were kidnapped.
Security personnel and local hunters had succeeded in rescuing 21 of the students.
Hudson stated: “The management of CUSTECH is grieving our beloved killed students with profound shock and sadness.
“Therefore, in remembrance of our departed students, all university activities from May 27 to May 29 will be low-key.”
The registrar stated that the administration of the university expressed sympathy to the families and coworkers of the departed students and urged the parents, other relatives, guardians, friends, and well-wishers of the departed students to find comfort in God.
She added that more work was being done by the state administration to guarantee the safe escape of the remaining pupils from their kidnappers.
“Governor Usman Ododo is doing everything within his power to guarantee the pupils’ safe release.
She continued, “We therefore implore everyone to maintain composure and the peace the state is enjoying.”
