Labour Party Spokesperson Criticizes Wole Soyinka Over Comments on Peter Obi

The spokesperson of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, Ife Salako, has criticized Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka for advising the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, not to run in 2027. In a viral interview, Soyinka accused Obi of encouraging aggressive behavior among his supporters, known as Obidients, and misrepresenting their discussions.

Salako, responding in a video on his X handle, accused Soyinka of creating problems instead of resolving them. He claimed the politician Soyinka supports has connections with criminals and criticized Soyinka’s historical involvement in cultism, which he says continues to affect the country.

Salako also highlighted the need for discussions on national improvement, noting that businesses are closing, and poverty is increasing under the current administration.
