The Lagos State government has unveiled plans for palliative repair work on the third mainland bridge to address its deteriorated sections with potholes. This maintenance operation is scheduled for September 17 and 24 and will last from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. The state government is collaborating with the federal government to carry out this essential repair work.
The project will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the most critical sections of the bridge, particularly the Iyana Oworonshoki inward Adeniji Adele/Lagos Island segment. The government has deliberately chosen Sundays for this palliative work to minimize disruptions for motorists.
During the repair period, motorists traveling from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Alapere/Ogudu axis heading towards Lagos Island will be redirected to the Gbagada-Oshodi expressway, providing access to Ikorodu road/Funsho Williams Avenue, which connects to the Eko bridge and Lagos Island.
For motorists traveling from the Lagos mainland using Herbert Macaulay road (Adekunle axis) to reach Lagos Island via the third mainland bridge, they will be rerouted towards Muritala Mohammed Way, allowing them to utilize Carter bridge as an alternative route to Lagos Island.
