Emphasizing the importance of the Labour Party in keeping the ruling APC accountable, The Lp presidential candidate pledged to safeguard the interests of Nigerians through vigilant opposition.

Reflecting on the challenges faced in the past year, Obi lamented the nation’s struggle with peace, security, and the alarming increase in bloodshed, surpassing what could be expected in a wartime scenario. He called for justice against perpetrators of violence and urged the Federal Government to take decisive measures to prevent further occurrences.

Highlighting the pressing issues affecting the country, Obi underscored the need for an economic turnaround to address rising unemployment, inflation, poverty, and inequality. He stressed the importance of good governance, inclusive development, and accountable leadership in a functional democracy.

Identifying a fundamental threat to democracy, Obi emphasized the critical role of national institutions and called for an end to the capture of state affairs and resources by a few individuals and private interests. He urged respect for the separation of powers between the three arms of government and the federating units.

Expressing concerns about the potential drift toward a one-party state, Obi called for the National Assembly’s diligent performance of its functions, especially regarding the examination and approval of the 2024 budget. He cautioned against undue Federal Government intervention in state affairs, particularly when national security is not at risk.

Reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to its role as the main opposition, Obi called on Nigerians to remain engaged, committed, and resilient in their pursuit of a new Nigeria. He thanked supporters who backed the party during the 2023 elections and acknowledged the contested nature of the presidential election’s outcome, respecting the decisions of the courts.

In conclusion, Obi urged citizens to actively participate in the ongoing efforts for the Labour Party to fulfill its new role as Nigeria’s primary opposition party, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building.
