Oby Ezekwesili Criticizes President Tinubu Over National Anthem Bill

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has criticized President Bola Tinubu following the swift passage of the National Anthem bill, which was signed into law on Wednesday. The bill, introduced just last week in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, was rapidly considered and passed, drawing widespread criticism amidst rising inflation and security concerns.

Ezekwesili expressed her dismay on X, questioning the priority given to the National Anthem amidst pressing governance issues. She remarked, “With all the horrible indicators of the state of governance? So, it is a new National Anthem that is their priority? I frankly thought it was a joke and gave it no attention.”

She further condemned the legislative focus, calling it an egregious case of “Majoring in the Minor” and urged Nigerian citizens to recognize the political class as a significant hindrance to the country’s progress. Ezekwesili emphasized that Nigerians must collectively work to save themselves and the nation from the inefficiencies and misconduct of their leaders.
