Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kayode Ajulo, has criticized the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the leadership crisis in Ondo State. Ajulo expressed his disagreement during an interview on Arise Television, stating that the President did not properly involve the Attorney General, who is expected to provide legal advice in such matters.
President Tinubu intervened in the months-long political crisis, urging opposing factions to embrace peace and maintain the status quo. The Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, pledged to unite all factions, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, resolved to halt impeachment moves against
Aiyedatiwa.
Ajulo argued that the President’s intervention was a mistake, emphasizing that constitutional provisions should have been allowed to take their course. He expressed concern that the Attorney General might not be adequately consulted for proper legal advice.
“The President has made a mistake. The President should have allowed the constitutional provisions to take its course. Ondo State people are sophisticated. The right thing needs to be done,” Ajulo stated.
The criticism comes amid ongoing political developments in Ondo State, with stakeholders navigating through a complex leadership situation.
