The mourning period is a poignant acknowledgment of the significant role played by the late Governor Akeredolu, both within the South-West region and on the national stage. Governor Makinde, deeply affected by the loss, has further mandated that all flags at public offices in Oyo State be flown at half-mast during these three days.
The announcement comes in the wake of the passing of Arakunrin Akeredolu, who succumbed to a prolonged battle with prostate cancer in the early hours of Wednesday. Governor Makinde, along with the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, paid a visit to the Ibadan residence of the late Ondo State governor on Wednesday evening to convey their condolences.

The three-day mourning period serves as a collective expression of grief and respect for the departed leader, highlighting the impact of his contributions to regional and national governance. The people of Oyo State and beyond are urged to observe this period with a sense of reflection and honor for the late Governor Akeredolu.
