Police apprehend three for stealing late Ogun monarch’s staff and crown.

Amusa Kazeem, Oke Oladipupo, and Johnson Oluwole were reportedly detained by the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday for allegedly stealing the royal crown and other items from the late Oba Olugbenga Shodiya, the Olu of Ogunmakin, who passed away approximately two months ago.

The late royal father’s home was allegedly broken into on October 12 at around two in the morning by the trio of Kazeem, Oladipupo, and Oluwole in order to steal the crown and the staff of office, according to a statement made by the police public relations officer for the state command, SP Omolola Odutola.

“On October 12, 2023, an intelligence was received from the Palace of his Royal Majesty Late Ogunmakin that one Amusa Kazeem “m” Oke Oladipupo and Johnson Oluwole “m” conspired and stole the Royal Crown and Staff of Office two months after the demise of King Ogunmakin,” the statement stated. The individuals are accused of breaking into the home where the late king’s belongings were kept at around 2:00 a.m. The pair removed the late King’s staff of office and the royal crown using the key that was in the possession of the person tasked with maintaining the assets, performing an act that has been called an abomination.

“As soon as the police received the tip, they acted quickly and took the Royal Crown from one Kazeem Amusan’s home. Although intensive efforts are still being made to restore the office staff, they have not yet recovered. The suspects have been detained and are being questioned.

Abiodun Alamutu, the commissioner of police, who is alleged to have been briefed on this despicable episode, has still denounced the sacrilegious act and urged members of the public to come forward with information that would help locate the staff of office.
