Police Arrest 288 Robbers, 187 Kidnappers, and 198 Murderers, Says IG

The Nigeria Police Force has reported the arrest of numerous suspects involved in various criminal activities over the past five weeks. These arrests include:

  • 288 armed robbery suspects
  • 187 kidnap suspects
  • 198 homicide suspects
  • 59 suspects for possession of prohibited firearms
  • 168 suspects involved in cases of rape, defilement, and other sexual offenses
  • 265 suspected cultists
  • 1,891 other suspects for various crimes

In addition to these arrests, the police have successfully recovered 127 firearms of different calibers, 612 assorted ammunition, and 89 stolen vehicles. They have also rescued 71 kidnapped victims who were subsequently reunited with their families.

The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Acting Inspector-General Olukayode Egbetokun, has been actively working to maintain law and order in the country. Despite challenges and pockets of incidents, Nigeria has witnessed a decline in the overall crime rate compared to previous figures.

In response to the success of the Central Motor Registry (CMR) platform, which has aided in the recovery of stolen vehicles, the police encourage Nigerians to register their vehicles online to enhance security and increase the chances of vehicle recovery in case of theft.

Additionally, the police have initiated a comprehensive review of firearms licensing and regulations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to improve effectiveness, transparency, and accountability in line with existing laws.

Acting Inspector-General Egbetokun urges individuals involved in the wrongful possession of firearms to voluntarily submit such weapons to the nearest police stations, assuring that this will not result in sanctions.

The police emphasize the importance of reporting any suspicious firearms-related activities to local police stations and through various NPF social media platforms for prompt response and action.

Lastly, the police are investing in specialized training for personnel through the Special Intervention Squad program to equip them with advanced skills and techniques for handling complex security challenges across the country.

Overall, the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring public safety and security, and they call for the cooperation and support of the public in achieving these goals.
